Head Protection
A safety helmet is one of the most important pieces of PPE on any construction site, rope access job or industrial workplace, protecting the head against impact, falling objects and, on some models, electrical hazards. We sell helmets and hard hats from Kask and Petzl, covering EN 397 industrial hard hats and EN 12492 work at height helmets, plus visors, ear defenders and replacement parts.

Hard hats vs safety helmets: what's the difference
A traditional hard hat protects mainly against falling objects and usually has no chin strap, so it can lift off in a fall. A safety helmet built for work at height, such as the Kask Zenith X or Petzl VERTEX VENT, includes a secure chin strap and meets EN 12492, so it stays in place during a fall or in high winds. EN 397 hard hats are built for general site and groundwork use and are not designed to stay on during a fall.
Choosing the right helmet for the job
Rope access and climbing teams need a helmet rated to EN 12492 with a dual chin strap system, like the Petzl VERTEX VENT or STRATO Vent. Groundwork and general construction call for an EN 397 hard hat such as the Kask Zenith X. Electrical trades should check for a helmet rated for the voltage present on site, since not every model offers electrical protection. Forestry and arborist crews are usually better served by an all in one unit combining a helmet, mesh visor and ear defenders, such as the Kask Zenith X Air with accessories fitted.
Kask helmets: designed and made in Italy
Kask is our best selling head protection brand, with the Zenith X and Zenith X Air ranges built for construction and work at height, and the SuperPlasma AQ built for lighter industrial and climbing use. Kask helmets carry a chin strap as standard, unlike many traditional hard hats, which keeps the helmet secured in high winds or during a fall. The Zenith range also supports a full accessory system: visors, ear defender bayonet adapters, neck shades and winter liners, so one shell can be adapted across seasons and tasks.
Petzl helmets for work at height and rescue
The Petzl VERTEX VENT uses a dual chin strap system, letting workers switch the strap tension between EN 12492 work at height mode and EN 397 groundwork mode on the same helmet. The STRATO Vent is a lighter option for climbers and technicians who need ventilation without sacrificing certification. Both ranges take the VIZIR and VIZEN visor systems for face and eye protection on site.
Complete your head protection
A helmet is only one part of a full head protection setup. Pair it with ear defenders for hearing protection and eye protection for the eyes and face, or fit a Petzl VIZIR or Kask full face visor directly to your existing helmet shell. Rope access technicians should also check our safety harnesses and lanyards ranges, and ground crews often add safety gloves to complete the kit. We stock replacement pads, chin straps, neck shades and winter liners for both Kask and Petzl helmets, so an existing shell can be kept in service rather than replaced.
