Boom Arms

Boom arms extend lighting fixtures and small equipment away from a truss, pipe or stand, giving lighting designers greater flexibility to position stage lights exactly where they're needed.

MTN Shop stocks the Doughty boom arm range in various lengths and WLL ratings, designed to pair with our clamps and couplers for a complete rigging solution. Commonly attached via hook clamps or half couplers to lighting truss or scaffold tube, boom arms are a staple of theatre, TV studio and live event lighting rigs.

Steel Boom Arms for General Side Lighting

The Doughty Steel Boom Arms, rated to 12kg WLL, cover general side-lighting positions, available in a standard twist style or a straight version depending on how the fixture needs to angle away from the support. Where two fixtures need to share one mounting point, the Steel Double Boom Arms, also rated to 12kg WLL, extend two arms from a single connection.

Aluminium and Braced Boom Arms for Heavier Loads

For heavier fixtures than the standard steel range covers, the Doughty Boom Arms (Aluminium), available in polished or black finish, create side light positions at 250mm reach. The Boom Arms with Brace add a support strut back to the main structure, increasing capacity to 100kg WLL, and the Boom Arms - Heavy Duty, rated to 50kg WLL, cover the range between the standard steel arm and the braced version.

Wall Mounted Boom Arm

Where there's no truss or tube to clamp onto, the Doughty Wall Mounted Boom Arm fixes directly to a solid wall, giving a side-lighting position in venues without overhead rigging or a stand-mounted option nearby.

Warranty and Load Ratings

All boom arms sold by MTN Shop EU are genuine Doughty stock, sourced through official distribution, so full manufacturer warranty applies as it would from the brand directly. Every boom arm is rated to a specific Working Load Limit (WLL), from 12kg on the standard steel range up to 100kg on the braced version, and this should never be exceeded by the fixture and any additional hardware combined.

Choosing the Right Boom Arm

Match the boom arm's WLL to the total weight of the fixture plus any adapters or safety bonds attached to it, not just the fixture alone. For heavier fixtures or longer reach, a braced or heavy duty arm gives a meaningfully higher WLL than the standard steel range, so check the rating before assuming a lighter arm will do the job.
