The color scheme indicates civilian (orange) and military (khaki – olive) uses. The main goal is the quick and safe evacuation of patients, even under difficult and non-trainable circumstances.

In general, the new Sked® Rapid Extraction rescue stretcher is lighter. Weighing only 8.2 kg, it’s not a challenge. A light companion, even in combat where every gram counts. Compared to our classic Sked® Basic Rescue System, the new Sked® Rapid Extraction model has more straps, allowing better fixation of the patient and holding them better in the intended position.

The horizontal lifting straps are similar to our classic Sked® Basic Rescue System, but in the new Sked® Rapid Extraction System, these straps are the same length. Each of these two straps has a load capacity of approx. 4.5 kN or 4500 kg. The integration of the vertical lifting sling into the built-in harness eliminates the need for a rope, as used in the Sked® Basic Rescue System. This improvement saves a lot of time. No need to thread a rope through loops. Crucially, the entire rescue system is completely knot-free. No knots can be forgotten, and no knots can be made incorrectly. The screw link at the head end is used and clipped into a winch hook on the helicopter or the respective lifting or lowering rope system.

The vertical harness strap is already factory-sewn into the designated loops. At the end, there is a screw link with a load capacity exceeding 22 kN. The straps are closed with the well-known COBRA® buckles from Austria Alpin. COBRA® buckles are a proven solution, even under the most difficult conditions such as visibility issues from weather (e.g. snow, rain, ice, fog) or environmental conditions (e.g. smoke, closed unlit spaces, dirt, liquids, and more).

About halfway through the Sked® Rapid Extraction Rescuestrage are adjustable leg loops that are placed around the patient's thighs to hold and lift their weight. They are connected to the vertically sewn harness strap. If it’s only possible to attach the harness strap to one leg (e.g. due to amputation), this attachment is sufficient. If the patient has lost both legs, it’s possible to create a loop from the harness strap to hold the body in position.

The straps can also be used as a tourniquet to stop bleeding. Holding the patient in the upper part of the stretcher greatly facilitates handling.

At the top is a sort of chest strap. Even with an uncontrolled rotation, the patient remains in the stretcher. The straps are placed in an “X” shape over the patient’s upper body, ensuring maximum safety during transport. The forearms/hands can also be fixed in the leg loops.

The Sked® Rapid Extraction Rescuestrage is about 70 cm wide at the upper body and narrows towards the foot end. This ensures easy access to the patient. The stretcher does not need to be opened for this purpose.

The vertically arranged straps are fed through the reinforced loops from the inside out, and the screw link at the head end is attached to the middle loop on the outside. This prevents the straps from dragging on the ground. When the stretcher is to be lifted vertically, the screw link can be clipped into the winch hook of a helicopter or carabiner hook of a rope system.

Before lifting the Sked® Rapid Extraction Stretcher vertically, it is necessary to pull the shoulder strap at the head end over the patient’s head so that they are protected. This protects them from objects they might bump into while the stretcher is being lifted, as well as from falling objects. Even during an accidental upside-down rotation, the rolled-up upper part of the stretcher provides some protection against bumps, similar to a helmet.
