Half Couplers

Half couplers join a single tube to a fixed structural point, commonly used in scaffold and truss-based rigging to attach lighting bars, pipe or scenery supports to an existing structure.

MTN Shop stocks the Doughty half coupler range, built to the same load-rated standard as our full pipe clamps and c clamps. A practical, quick-to-install alternative where a full swivel or fixed coupler isn't needed, ideal for anchoring boom arms, curtain track supports or lighting fixtures directly to scaffold tube.

Atom Clamp Half Couplers: 25mm to 38mm

For lighter tube diameters, the 25mm, 32mm, 35mm and 38mm Atom Half Couplers all share a 100kg WLL rating, giving consistent capacity across the smaller diameter range regardless of exact tube size.

50mm Half Couplers: TÜV, Lightweight and Slimline

For standard 48-51mm truss and scaffold tube, the Half Coupler: 50mm TÜV Tested, available in aluminium, stainless or black, is rated to 750kg WLL. The Lightweight version (500kg WLL), Slimline version (750kg WLL) and Super Lightweight version (100kg WLL) trade some capacity for reduced weight and a smaller footprint, useful where every gram matters on a touring rig.

Swivel Couplers

Where two tubes need to connect at a variable angle, the 48mm Swivel Coupler (750kg WLL) covers standard tube, with Lightweight (500kg), Slimline (750kg), Low Profile (500kg) and Super Lightweight (100kg) variants for different weight and space trade-offs. For the smaller Atom range, 25mm, 32mm and 38mm Atom Swivel Couplers (100kg WLL each) cover smaller diameter tube. The Mammoth Swivel Coupler (500kg WLL) connects the larger 60mm tube size to standard 48mm.

Parallel and 90 Degree Fixed Couplers

The Parallel Coupler 48mm (750kg WLL) joins two tubes running side by side, and the 90 Degree Fixed Coupler - 48mm (750kg WLL) locks two tubes at a fixed right angle rather than allowing rotation. Both are also available in Atom sizes (25mm, 32mm, 35mm, 38mm, each 100kg WLL) for smaller diameter tube, and in Lightweight 48mm versions (500kg WLL) where weight is a factor.

Truss Adapters

For mounting truss to a wall or ceiling, the range includes Fixed, Solid Swivel, Solid Hanging and Hanging Truss Adaptors, most available in 150-250mm and 200-400mm truss centre spacings, with WLL ranging from 200kg to 500kg depending on the specific model. The Fixed Ladder Truss Adaptor uses a 28mm spigot connection instead of a clamp fitting.

Pipe to Pipe Couplers

The Pipe To Pipe Coupler (200kg WLL) joins two tubes end to end in a straight line, while the 90 Degree version, available in 250mm, 500mm, 750mm and 1000mm centre spacings, joins tubes at a right angle instead.

Gravlock and Specialist Couplers

The Gravlock Coupler (600kg WLL, used in pairs) connects tube to a Gravlock-compatible beam clamp. The Stabilizer Coupler adds articulation for one-off angles a fixed coupler can't accommodate, and the 48mm Finial Coupler, available across four plug sizes, connects to specific finial fittings.

Side Entry Clamps and Connectors

The Standard Side Entry Clamp (750kg WLL) and Slimline & Side Entry Clamp (750kg WLL, 18 pieces) allow a tube to be fitted from the side rather than threaded through, useful where a run is already assembled. The Doughty Connector and Clamp with Half Connector (100kg WLL) join hardware combinations not covered by a standard half coupler alone.

Warranty and Load Ratings

All half couplers, swivel couplers and truss adapters sold by MTN Shop EU are genuine Doughty stock, sourced through official distribution, so full manufacturer warranty applies as it would from the brand directly. WLL varies significantly across this range, from 100kg on Atom and lightweight fittings up to 750kg on standard 50mm TÜV-tested couplers, so always check the rating of the specific variant you're ordering.

Choosing the Right Coupler

Match the coupler to your tube diameter first (25-38mm Atom range or standard 48-51mm), then choose between standard, lightweight, slimline or super lightweight based on your priority: standard and slimline variants generally carry the highest WLL, while lightweight and super lightweight trade some capacity for reduced weight on touring rigs. Use a swivel coupler where the angle between tubes varies, and a fixed or parallel coupler where the angle is set and known.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reducing weight for touring use generally means less material in the clamp body, which can lower the WLL compared to the standard version. Always check the specific product's rating rather than assuming all variants of the same coupler size carry equal capacity.
A swivel coupler allows the angle between two tubes to be adjusted and locked at any position. A fixed 90 degree coupler only connects tubes at a set right angle, with no adjustment.
No, Atom half couplers are sized for smaller diameter tube (25mm, 32mm, 35mm, 38mm). For standard 48-51mm truss and scaffold tube, use the 50mm half coupler range instead.
A standard half coupler is fitted by threading it onto the end of a tube. A side entry clamp opens to accept the tube from the side, useful when the tube run is already assembled and can't be threaded through.
