Studio Rail Track: 60 and 80 Sizes

The Studio Rail 60, available in 2.0m, 3.0m, 4.0m and 6.0m lengths, is rated to 100kg WLL and forms the base track for most installations. Curved sections are available for both Studio Rail 60 (6 radii from 0.75m to 1.5m) and Studio Rail 80 (5 radii from 0.75m to 1.35m), letting a run follow a curved ceiling or wall rather than only straight lines.

Joining Track Sections

The Studio Rail Joiner Kit, available for both Rail 60 and Rail 80, uses the system's joint pin design to align sections precisely during installation, so carriages run smoothly across the joint rather than catching on a misaligned seam. Spare Joint Pins are stocked separately for maintenance. The Drilling Jig ensures fixing holes line up correctly during on-site installation.

Mounting the Track

The Ceiling Bracket (200kg WLL, 25mm or 50mm adjustment) suits a solid ceiling, while the Slotted Wall Bracket (25kg WLL) comes in single, double or triple-rail widths for wall mounting one or more rails from the same fixing. The Adjustable Extension Bracket and Adjustable Angle Bracket (both 100-200kg WLL) allow the rail position to be fine-tuned after installation, and the 90 Degree Crossover Bracket joins two rails at a right angle. Where multiple rails need to hang from a single point, the Suspension Bracket and Spacer Plate support 2 or 3 rails from one fixing.

Carriages for Curtains and Equipment

For curtains, the Curtain Carriage (6kg WLL, sold in packs of 5) runs on either Rail 60 or Rail 80. For suspending cameras or luminaires, the 4 Wheel Carriage with Spigot (200kg WLL, standard or mini 16mm spigot) and 6 Wheel Carriage with a 28mm Receiver (200kg WLL, with friction brake) mount equipment with a standard spigot fitting. The Cable Carriage (6kg WLL) manages cabling that runs alongside the track, and the Double Swivel Carriage (100kg WLL) connects two rails, including a Rail 80 to Rail 60 transition option.

Receivers and Curtain Controls

The 3 Point Receiver (100kg WLL) provides a standard spigot mounting point, and the Cupped Curtain Brake controls curtain movement and stopping along the track. For manually operated runs, the Telescopic Operators Pole, available in five lengths from 2.8m to 7.4m, lets an operator reach and pull the curtain from ground level.

Clamps and End Stops

The 40mm, 100mm & 114mm Clamps work with the Slotted Wall Bracket range to clamp rail directly to a solid surface, sized to match Rail 60 or Rail 80. End Stops (sold in packs of 4 pairs) prevent carriages sliding off the end of a track run.

Warranty and Load Ratings

All Doughty Studio Rail components sold by MTN Shop EU are genuine stock, sourced through official distribution, so full manufacturer warranty applies as it would from the brand directly. WLL varies by component, from 6kg on curtain and cable carriages up to 200kg on ceiling brackets and equipment carriages, so always confirm the rating of each part in your installation, since the weakest-rated component sets the limit for the whole run.

Planning a Studio Rail Installation

Choose Rail 60 or Rail 80 based on the load you need to carry and confirm every accessory (carriages, brackets, joiner kits) is ordered for the matching size, since the two aren't interchangeable. For installations mixing both sizes, the Double Swivel Carriage with a Rail 80 to Rail 60 option bridges the transition without needing a separate adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions

The choice depends on the load and equipment you plan to hang. Confirm all accessories, carriages and brackets are ordered for the matching size, since Rail 60 and Rail 80 components aren't interchangeable except where a specific transition part, like the Double Swivel Carriage, is used.
The rail itself is rated to 100kg between brackets, but accessories vary: curtain and cable carriages are rated to 6kg, while equipment carriages and ceiling brackets go up to 200kg. The lowest-rated component in your specific setup sets the overall limit.
The Drilling Jig ensures fixing holes are positioned correctly during installation, reducing the risk of misaligned brackets that could affect how smoothly carriages run along the track.
Yes, using the Double Swivel Carriage in its Rail 80 to Rail 60 configuration, which is specifically designed to bridge the transition between the two sizes.
