Safety Cables & Bonds
Safety bonds are secondary retention cables, standard best practice whenever a fixture is rigged overhead. If the primary clamp or fixing fails, a correctly rated safety bond stops the load from falling to the ground below.
MTN Shop carries the full Doughty safety bond range from 5kg to 100kg WLL, including standard steel, stainless steel and TV Spec versions, each supplied with a locking carabiner for a complete, ready-to-fit safety loop. We also stock the Doughty Lynch Pin with wire, a quick-release pin with its own attached safety cable.

What Is a Safety Bond and Why Do I Need One?
A safety bond is a secondary cable that catches a fixture if its primary rigging point, clamp or fixing fails. It is standard practice on any equipment suspended above people, and is not a substitute for a correctly rated primary point, but a backup in case that point fails. Every Doughty safety bond is stamped with its own Safe Working Load (SWL), which should always be rated to at least the weight of the item it's backing up.
Standard Steel Safety Bonds (5kg-100kg)
The Doughty Safety Bonds 5kg-100kg cover the widest range in a single product line, with six SWL and length combinations: 5kg (500mm), 15kg (585mm), 20kg (600mm), 36kg (600mm), 36kg (1000mm), and 100kg (600mm). This spread makes it the starting point for most general rigging jobs, since the correct combination of load rating and cable length can be selected from one product rather than sourcing multiple lines.
TV Spec Safety Bonds
For broadcast and TV studio work, the Doughty 75kg Safety Bond 5mm x 700mm TV Spec and 75kg Safety Bond TV Spec are finished in black, reducing visibility on camera compared to a standard bright steel cable, while still carrying a 75kg SWL rating.
Individual SWL Safety Bonds
Beyond the 5-100kg multi-pack line, single-SWL safety bonds are stocked separately for specific jobs: the 15kg Safety Bond 3mm x 630mm, 25kg Safety Bond 3mm x 585mm and 50kg Safety Bond 4mm x 700mm give a fixed SWL and length combination without needing to select a variant from a larger range.
Stainless Steel Safety Bonds
For outdoor or corrosive environments where a standard steel bond would rust over time, the stainless steel range covers the 15kg, 20kg, 36kg and 100kg SWL ratings, all at 585-600mm length, giving the same load range as the standard steel line with better long-term corrosion resistance.
Lynch Pins
The Doughty Lynch Pin with wire is a quick-release retaining pin with its own attached safety cable, commonly used to secure clevis pins and similar connections where a full safety bond isn't the right fit for the job.
Warranty and Load Ratings
All safety bonds and lynch pins sold by MTN Shop EU are genuine Doughty stock, sourced through official distribution, so full manufacturer warranty applies as it would from the brand directly. Every safety bond is stamped with its rated SWL, which should never be exceeded and should always be checked against the actual weight of the item being backed up, not the rating of the primary rigging point.
Choosing the Right Safety Bond
Select a safety bond rated to at least the full weight of the fixture, independent of what the primary clamp or fixing is rated for. Match the cable length to the distance between the fixture and the structure it's bonded to, since a bond that's too short won't reach and one that's too long adds unnecessary slack. Choose stainless steel for outdoor or damp environments, and TV Spec black finish where visibility on camera is a concern.
