Scenery Fixings
Scenery fixings are the standard hardware used to build, brace, join and fly sets and scenic elements in theatre, film and TV production, designed for the fast build and strike schedules typical of touring shows.
MTN Shop stocks the Doughty scenery fixings range, including flying irons, scenery braces, hinges and grummets for folding and flying flats safely. Reliable, repeatable connections without specialist tools make this a trusted choice for set builders and technical stage managers.

Scenery Braces for Supporting Flats
The Doughty Scenery Fixing - Scenery Brace supports a flat or panel at an angle from the stage floor, working with a stage weight or coach eye to hold it upright. It's available as a fixed 2.0m length, or as an extending brace in three ranges (1.0-2.0m, 1.5-3.0m, 2.0-4.0m), so one brace can cover different flat heights without needing a separate fixed-length version for each.
Joining and Hanging Flats: Flying Irons and Hinges
To join two flats edge to edge, the Long Flying Iron, available in flat or lipped style, and the Short Hanging Iron, with eye in or eye out orientation, both connect flats along their length. The Loose Pin Hinge, in 1.5", 1.75" and 2" sizes, allows two flats to fold flat against each other for storage or transport, and separates completely by removing the pin rather than staying permanently attached. Replacement Hinge Pins are sold in packs of 100, since these are a common consumable on a busy build.
Grummets and Quick-Release Fixings
Where scenery needs to go up and come down repeatedly between shows, the Grummet Quick Release is faster to operate than the Standard Grummet (100mm x 16mm), which suits scenery that stays fixed in place for longer runs. The matching Grummet End Fixing (66mm x 45mm) completes the connection at the opposite end.
Plates, Sockets and Panel Connectors
For joining panel sections and pelmets, the range includes the Peg Plate and Stud Plate (both 70mm x 45mm), the Extension Socket (70mm x 68mm) with matching Extended Plug, and the Pelmet Socket (68mm x 45mm) with Pelmet Clip. The Joint/Stop Plate (80mm x 45mm) and 90 Degree Bracket cover corner and end connections, and the Boss Plate gives a flush M10 fixing point for a stage brace where a protruding fitting isn't wanted.
Ceiling and Ring Fixings
The Ceiling Plate, available with or without a ring included, and the separate Ring Plate, provide fixed suspension points for hanging scenery or rigging hardware from a solid ceiling structure.
Flyrail Cleats and Rope Hardware
For flown scenery operated by hand line, the Doughty Flyrail Cleats (200kg WLL), available in 300mm, 375mm and 450mm sizes, secure hauling lines at the fly floor. The Doughty Rope Break, sized for 19mm rope, controls the speed of a load being lowered on rope, a safety-relevant fitting for manually operated flying systems.
Stage Screws and Coach Eyes
The Doughty Stage Screw and Coach Eye are basic fixing hardware used alongside a scenery brace, giving the brace a fixed point to hook or screw into on the stage floor or a set piece.
Warranty and Load Ratings
All scenery fixings sold by MTN Shop EU are genuine Doughty stock, sourced through official distribution, so full manufacturer warranty applies as it would from the brand directly. Load-bearing fittings, such as flyrail cleats, are rated to a specific Working Load Limit (WLL) that should never be exceeded.
Choosing the Right Scenery Fixing
Choose quick-release fittings, such as the Grummet Quick Release, for scenery that goes up and comes down repeatedly between shows, and standard bolted or screwed fittings for scenery that stays in place for a longer run. Match plates and sockets by their stated dimensions to the fixture or panel edge you're joining, since sizes vary across the range and aren't universally interchangeable.
