Transport vertical
Lift and move steel plates safely on their edge with vertical transport plate clamps from MTN Shop. These lifting clamps grip a plate by its edge and hold it in the vertical position while it is raised, moved and lowered. They are essential for handling sheet metal and steel plate in fabrication, steelyards and construction, where plates need to be lifted from a stack, racked vertically or turned during the move.
We sell vertical transport clamps from Camlok, a trusted name in lifting clamps. The range covers standard vertical plate clamps with safety lock, hinged hook ring models for handling plates at various angles, side loading clamps for heavy duty work and twin jaw clamps for thicker materials, across a wide span of capacities.
For lifting plates flat and level, see our horizontal transport clamps. To complete your lifting setup, browse our industrial hoists and the full below the hook lifting devices range.

Vertical Transport Plate Clamps at MTN Shop
Vertical transport clamps are lifting clamps designed to grip a steel plate by its edge and lift it in the vertical position. They are one of the most important tools in plate handling, used in manufacturing, fabrication and construction to lift and move flat plate, sheet metal and steel sections. Used with a hoist or crane, a vertical clamp grips the plate securely and many models allow the plate to be rotated through 90 or 180 degrees during the lift.
Vertical vs horizontal lifting clamps
The difference lies in how the plate is carried. A vertical clamp grips the plate by its edge and lifts it on its side, ideal for lifting from a stack, racking plates vertically or turning them. A horizontal clamp holds the plate flat and level for transporting it horizontally. Many jobs use both depending on the task. See our horizontal transport clamps for flat lifting.
Types of vertical plate clamp
- Standard clamps with safety lock grip the plate firmly and keep the jaw locked closed throughout the lift.
- Hinged hook ring clamps allow the plate to be handled at various angles, lifting from horizontal and setting down in the vertical.
- Side loading clamps are built for heavy duty work and allow vertically racked plates to be turned.
- Twin jaw clamps are designed for materials with a low minimum weight but large thickness.
Choosing the right clamp
Select a clamp rated for the weight of your plate and check the jaw capacity, which is the range of plate thickness it can grip. For long plates, it is recommended to use a pair of clamps together with a spreader beam to keep the load balanced. Note that the plate surface usually needs to be below a certain hardness for the clamp to grip safely, so always check the manufacturer guidance and work within the safe working load.
